Freedom is the ability to experience different concepts. Most people desire freedom, as there are many concepts that are extremely enjoyable, such as visiting france or eating good food. However, often attaining high freedom requires limiting your freedom in the short term, or experiencing concepts which aren’t much fun, like hard work.

Here is a comprehensive list of things that can limit your freedom:

  • Addiction (You are a slave to your desires). This is why discipline makes you more free. Discipline is the antidote to loss of freedom via addiction.
  • Nature (Nature requires you to act in a certain way to survive). Knowledge and it’s applications (technology) is the antidote to lack of freedom via nature.
  • Technology (Technology requires you to act in a certain way to survive).
  • Evil acts (Human is forcibly restricted. All bad acts fall into this category, e.g. murder, violence, theft).

That last point is quite interesting. All acts that are considered bad restrict someone’s freedom in some way. For example, murder stops someone experiencing any concepts, violance causes injury which restricts someone’s ability to do things, and theft reduces someone’s belongings, which means they are unable to use those belongings to experience the concepts associated with them.
